CALL FOR FUNDING APPLICATIONS: DIGITAL AFRICAN PATHWAYS PROGRAMME TEACHING AND RESEARCH MOBILITY GRANT FOR THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

The National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) is pleased to invite suitably qualified researchers and postgraduate students based in South Africa’s participating public universities to apply for the 2021/22 African Pathways Programme’s Teaching and Research Mobility Grant. The objective of the digital African Pathways Programme Teaching and Research Mobility Initiative is to advance research, teaching and learning in the humanities and social sciences (HSS), with the integration of digital and/or hybrid tools, techniques, and platforms into research methodology. This will foster greater cooperation and dialogue among scholars and postgraduate researchers within the African continent. Funding under this programme will support South African researchers and postgraduate students who undertake research and teaching endeavours at non-South African universities across the African continent.

The Digital African Pathways Programme Mobility Initiative provides support to South African scholars and postgraduate researchers pursuing joint teaching collaborations, establishing teaching programmes, new curriculum development, attending relevant short courses and fostering research networks at non-South African universities across the African continent.

As part of its Digital Humanities approach, the NIHSS strongly encourages APP Mobilities applicants to incorporate the use of digital/hybrid tools, techniques, and platforms in the implementation of their research and teaching endeavours. Such examples include but are not limited to the following:

  • Holding online digital teaching exchanges among countries across the continent;
