SARAH MOSOETSA is the Chief Executive Officer of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in South Africa. She is the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS), an entity of the Department of Higher Education and Training. Sarah has also worked at various institutions in South Africa and currently serves on several governing Boards, university councils and higher education national task teams. She is the interim chairperson of the South African BRICS Think Tank and a member of the BRICS Think Tank Council. Sarah completed her PhD in Sociology in 2005 (Wits University) and has published on a range of research topics, including work, unemployment, inequality, poverty, and the humanities and social sciences in numerous international and local journals such as International Labor and Working-class History; Labour, Capital and Society, Transformation: Critical Perspectives on Southern Africa, Global Dialogue, Journal of International Development, and Journal of Southern African Studies. Her first book, “Eating from One pot: Dynamics of Survival in poor South African households,” was published in 2011 by Wits Press and she has co-edited the “Labour in the Global South: challenges and alternatives for workers” book, published by the International Labour Organisation.
